There are some good things to the hospital, just not in the OR.Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center in Newport Beach I left after 10months and the only reason why it took that long is because of the slowing of jobs during covid. Almost all nurses are 8 hour shifts and they start lunch breaks early right after having your first 10minute break. If you clock out one minute late, you have to write it in a book why you were one minute over 8 hours.

And you can be put on call on your days off even AFTER the schedule is already posted promotes poor culture. Your personal time is in the hands of a scheduler who does not schedule fairly. The hours are Monday-Fridays with call on your days off. They do not share the workload fairly and nurses rarely can get a Friday off. For experienced RN’s I do not suggest working there, keep on looking. I come from a reputable hospital that I enjoyed working for 15 years hoping to find a similar environment but not at Hoag in Newport.

Lots of backstabbing people who find great enjoyment in approaching employees in intimidating manners. Overall, it's not a bad place of work, but there are many areas that could be improved. Did not personally happen to me, but to a coworker unfortunately. Even being 1 minute late clocking in or out will start showing on your record and end in a write up eventually. Being a hardworking employee shouldn't be disregarded just because you're 5-10 minutes late once in a while. My manager was extremely caring and supported anyone in school for further medical or if they had to leave early for any reason. Some management don't support schooling and make it difficult to balance school/work, even though Hoag states they support those pursuing higher medical educations. Work stops as soon as you clock out, so work life balance is ok unless you're in management or a provider of course. Job satisfaction all depends on the department you're in and what kind of experiences you have there. Such a large company with millions in donations per year should be willing to pay their experienced employee's more than entry level. Entered my department as one of the only MA's licensed in phlebotomy, a practice used constantly in the department and was denied a pay bump.
